Out of what seems to be nowhere, one of my client's stores just stopped working. We are getting the "Error while opening database" error.

I have checked the following items:
1. The Path is the same
2. The database is in the same location
3. Downlaoded the db, did a compact and repair, re-uploaded, no go

Any other suggestions?

Please do not use the Forum for technical support requests. https://www.earlyimpact.com/productcart/support/support_form.asp - Open a support ticket instead. As for your specific problem: are you sure the server is running properly?

The rest of the client's site is running smootly. We are trying to find out if they made any changes to the server that we don't know about.

Sorry for posting here, I'm used to posting things like this in a forum so other people can read/learn and help themselves.

Regardless, I love the new forums. I never liked the old way! :-)

From my experience...(I had this problem occur for over a year)...it can be a file-locking issue (if you are using an Access DB).

One thing that every ProductCart Admin using an Access DB should know...is that you really shouldn't perform a normal file copy backup of the Access DB (from my experience).  Standard file copies perform some extra tasks that can interfere with IIS and make the store go kaboom (until IIS or the system are restarted).

For over a year my shop would run a backup script in the middle of the night...and if someone tried to access the store while the file copy was happening...it blew up.  The solution for us was to write a command-line file copy program that perform the most basic of file copies.  Our store hasn't had a single hiccup since I impleneted that 5-6 months ago.

Not sure if any of this is applicable in your case...but, from my experience it's an important caveat to know about when employing any backup schema that might involve the transfer of the Access DB while the store is running.

Hi,

When I have this problem, reclying the asp application pool on the server fixes it.  Some code is leaving database connections open and eventually chokes it I think.

Make sure your header.asp and footer.asp are not the culprit. If you need us to further look into the issue, please https://www.earlyimpact.com/productcart/support/support_form.asp - open a support ticket .
