If you sold only electrical and plumbing then all you would see in the collapsed navigation is two categories. Kind of bland and slower for the customer.

At the least I would love to know the hack (if there is one) to manually overide first level expansion.

Suggestion 2

Make an admin control panel for managing just the user navigation where you could mix parent, and children category display order. This way you could reorder and display whatever category you want without disrupting your current store category structure.

For example: A store sells Electrical and Plumbing but the navigation lists first level categories such as Fixtures, Wire, Pipe, Valves etc as well as perhaps some further drilled down categories like exterior lighting or whaterver. It would be the PC user's descretion to flip flop categories in any order or level.

Normally I would simply create my own navigation using a static file and a javascript ap, but a cool navigation editor would be a very trick feature giving PC "USERS" more control over how their site looks. It's easy to just let the webmasters deal with it, but I think PC has always been an application for the masses and easier is always better.
