Do you know which table the cart items get written to when an order number is generated?
 
Also can you tell me the session variable where the items in cart are stored?

It depends..... Whilst the customer is shopping they are stored in a session (only afaik).
Once the order is processed the data is stored in the DB (record of the order).
Another option customers have, if the store owner enables it, it to use a "wish list" in which case this is stored in the DB.

Does the software write all the items in cart to a session or does it store it in a database.\
 
I noticed that it does write it to the  configSessions table, but does it write it to another table?
