So this would not be possible "out of the box". It would require some custom programming.<br><br>For the short term, you could leave the "State" drop-down as is, add some text to the page, set the system not to automatically approve affiliates and review each application.<br>]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://forum.productcart.com/member_profile.asp?PF=4">katharina</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 2525<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 14-March-2009 at 3:40pm<br /><br />This will effect every online store in the USA, so custom coding may not be the long term solution.&nbsp; Having an affiliate will be treated like having a representative or presence in other states.&nbsp; Meaning you have to collect taxes on other states.&nbsp; The nightmare will be learning all the various tax rules and rates, which can change from city to city within a state. &nbsp; There seems to be no central place to look this up, or does anyone know of a URL? &nbsp; The reports will be important because sales tax has to be submitted to each state, and it will be dedious to add them all up manually.&nbsp; We are in a sales tax free state, so I cannot just log in and play around.&nbsp; At this point all we can do is prevent affiliate sign ups from certain states so we don't fall into this sales tax trap.&nbsp; What I'm interested to know is how PC will handle this?&nbsp; Can it be set up to prevent signups from certain states with a nice message explaning why. &nbsp;&nbsp; Just like overstock.com does.<br>Katharina<br>]]>

Check the documentation on the WIKI regarding this. Not sure about the reports, but if it isn't already there I suspect it would probably be easy to create the custom code to support this, or even easier, export all the sales data and then use a spreadsheet to extract all the info. <br><br>]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://forum.productcart.com/member_profile.asp?PF=4">katharina</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 2525<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 03-March-2009 at 2:27pm<br /><br />Ok here is a burning issue, that may effect all of us.&nbsp; So far we only had to collect sales tax in the state we are present.&nbsp; New York and other states now have inflicted sales tax on those selling goods to their states.&nbsp; One way those state found a way into this is by looking at affiliates links from someone in their states.&nbsp; They are basically saying that you now have a representative in their state and therefore must collect on all orders going to their state.&nbsp; Amazon and Overstock were the first to hit hard by these laws.&nbsp; They were being sued by NY and lost.&nbsp; Overstock will no longer accept affiliates from New York, and Amazon agreed to start to collect sales tax.&nbsp; Ebay is stilll fighting it.&nbsp; Neither of them have a presense in New York.&nbsp; New York seems to be the one pushing this issue the hardest, but other states like CA etc have implemented similar agendas.&nbsp; I'm not even sure how to figure out all those sales tax districts etc.&nbsp; A flat rate would be easy.&nbsp; It will take days to sort it all out.&nbsp; We also would need a way of running sales report showing the taxes etc.&nbsp; I'm not listing links here, just google it and read the reputable sources that will come up.<br>Katharina<br>]]>
