Integration to a web site is accomplished via an API call:

We have experience in this area and would be happy to discuss a development effort if that is of interest.
 
Additionally, we have completed an integration to Mail Chimp.  It's literally been back-burnered for months due to other priorities. 
 
Specifically, we initiate the required API call from the checkout page and the "my account" page when the checkbox is set/cleared in order to reflect the user's preferences.  We also provide a "subscribe" form widget that may be referenced within the site design that allows the user's e-mail address to be submitted to the mailing list.  An associated API call sends that address to MailChimp.
 
This code was built for v3.51.  Time permitting, we hope to offer this in the near future for that version as well as the current v4 release.
 
Potentially, this code could be cloned to support your i-contact requirement.

We are looking at using i-contact as our email marketing software.

I want to know if anybody has had experience with i-contact and how it integrates into product cart platform.  Especially with targeted email campaigns with certain categories.
