I was wondering what other folks are doing about what happens with files that are saved to the server such as when export reports are run and saved as csv files or when UPS and Fed Ex labels are run and their printable images are saved to the server.  We run approximately 300-400 labels per week during our busy season and this can create a lot of files.  I am sure I am not the only one having this problem.

Over time, these files build up and although I can go in and manually delete them from my own site, other clients of mine do not access their site except through control panel.  We can purge credit card data for old orders but how do we purge these old files?

By the way, I am suspicious that "internal server errors" are occurring because of the build up of these files.  It takes longer for file access and I think timing out occasionally.

We have created a tool that allows the merchant to easily delete older shipping label files from the "pcadmin/FedExLabels", "pcadmin/UPSLabels" and "pcadmin/USPSLabels" folders.

You may set the "number of days to retain labels" as a system setting, then whenever you wish to do so simply select the "shipping label purge" menu option.  A list of the files that are about to be deleted will be presented, you click the submit button, and the files are instantly deleted.

If anyone wishes their own copy of this code, click here for details: http://www.greybearddesign.com/productcart/shipping-label-purge/
