Does anyone have any direction on a module that will allow for the ability for a discount code to be "Buy Product X, Get Product Y FREE"? Or even a workaround? Early Impact is saying that most of the logic is there, but I don't see a timeline for including it. This to me seems like a direction many retailers would want to go so they could do an even better job of cross-promoting products.

From Early Impact Wiki - Can I do a promotion that says “Buy This, Get That Free” or “Buy This, Get Any of Those Free”, etc.?
Not yet. Most of the logic and underlying source code is actually already in ProductCart v4. However, during final testing we decided to pull the feature out because there were some issues with properly handling things such as quantity discounts, conflicting promotions, etc. The same is true with supporting promotions at the category level. We will return to these features soon, do more development, resolve open issues, and introduce them in future releases.

I had a situation where I need to offer either free stuff or use of a discount code that we give during a phone call or instant chat. I finally just faked things out by creating duplicate products with different options and a slightly different sku number. You can see it here:

http://www.disasterstuff.com/store/pc/Big-Berkey-Water-Filter-20p65.htm

The radio buttons are fake. If you click on one of them it is just a hyper link to the duplicate product. One product has free shipping and free stuff option, the other product has free shipping and discount code option during checkout.

I would love product cart to come up with a solution to this in the long run.

I'm also looking for a "clean" solution to this problem...

A clean solution, as in built in, would solve the problem many carts have of giving a customer the option of free stuff or an instant rebate. My problem is that this solution doesn't allow me to display all my products on a list with photo because I had to put the fake radio buttons in the short description field. This limits my formating options. But it works for now. Early impact will figure this out some day because they are pretty responsive and like to stay on the cutting edge.

You could offer the product as a bundle wihtout increasing the price.

That was the customer gets the item free. You can put it in a 'Buy one get one free' category'

You would have to create 2 product codes for the free item. One with a price and one without and that, of course, may create some issues if you use productcart to manage your inventory but I don't think that would be too difficult to manage.
