I know that I can use the Control Panel to change a customer from type retail to wholesale.

But is it possible for a new customer to register on the site and designate themselves as a wholesale customer?  or do i always have to change it for them?

Thanks.

Customers may only be set as wholesale via the admin.

You can do a bit of custom coding to make this happen. There is no "out of the box" feature to do so.

For example, you could pass a parameter to a customized version of the registration page so that customers that come to the page using that special URL, they will be registered as wholesale customers.

Any Certified ProductCart Developer would be able to assist you with this kind of task.

Thanks Hamish
This applies to 3.5.  I am on v4.1
I have set up a generic email account called designers@modernclassics.com and set up a password too.
I then assigned a custom pricing category to that account.
Now, is there a way to do the login parameters so that this "customer" is logged in automatically?
Something like:

http://www.modernclassics.com/store/pc/checkout.asp?idcustomer=380

Thanks
Curt
