I currently have 3.51 and apparel add-on and I offer a quantity discount at the category level. However I have to manually enter these discounts after processing since V3.51 can't handle sub product discounts. Basically I have a full size and a sample of every product I sell, I want to offer a discount on category X if they order 2 or more full sizes from that category, but not samples. then I want to offer a quantity discount for category Y if they order 3 or more full sizes from that category, again excluding samples. Can V4 do this? I really do not want to continue refunding the discount amount manually but I cannot afford to include a discount on samples. Also I don't want customers to get a discount if they order two samples and one full size in one category. Can this be done in V4 or can anyone help me with this?

Hi Sassy,
One of the enhancements in V4 is that it allows volume discounts to be assigned to the subproduct level. So it does sound like you can assign the discount to the full size item versus the sample. However, that means assigning discounts at the product level instead of the category level.
What I would recommend is that you play with EI's APP demo store and determine if you can establish a combination that meets both of your goals. Edited by Greg Dinger - 31-July-2010 at 1:06pm |

If I assign at the product level, then wouldn't it just give a discount if they order two of the same product? I need to be able to offer a discount if they order two of the same type of product, thus across a category. Is there any kind of Mod that could be created to do this?

This discount by subproduct is so new that I have not personally messed with it - it just happened to come up in another forum post recently. My suggestion is that you experiment with it, determine what it DOES DO, and then strategize over any potential mod.

Okay, I ran some tests and it is working pretty much the way I expected. If I want to give a discount based on the category, then the sample sizes activate the discount for the full size.So if the customer orders one sample and one full size the discount is given when really I want them to buy 2 full sizes. One idea i had was to have it add a $ minimum. So the discount would only apply to category items over $X. This would solve my problem, even better if this sort of mod could be created for V3.51

Messing with this in 3.51 is something I would consider unwise. You will spend more trying to push these v4 changes to h ow discounts work backwards to v3, in addition to needing to add the minimum, then it would take to upgrade you to v4.

Actually the way the discounts work in V3.51 now is fine, I just need a minimum $ added. The category discounts don't seem to be different in V4 then they were in V3.51. So you wouldn't have to push the V4 changes in V3.51, just create a minimum $ amount applied to the Qty Discount function already in place for 3.51.
