Hey I wanted to know if anyone may know of how to fix this:
For some reason a category which I named "category" but removed it and moved all of it's sub-categories to a different main category, is still showing up in my crumb trail. Obviously this is a problem because customer's might think they can click on it but then when it is clicked on, it gived them an error and says " This is not a valid category." Any ideas? Here's the page where it is displaying the "categories" in the crumb trail, but the root category is actually "our Products" http://www.fidjiti.com/shop/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory =322 Thanks for any help in advance. Sorry I'm not very knowledgable in asp or any other programming language for that matter. I guess I'm sorry to myself, because I wish I knew this stuff. ;) |

Did you run the "Generate Navigation" from the Settings menu after you updated your categories? The default navigation in PC only gets updated after you run that function.

Yep, I sure did run it. I ran it several times just now in hope to trigger something, but nothing.
If you go to www.fidjiti.com > shop by categotry > Albums > 12x12 you can see that the crumb trail adds the "categories" category, but that category isn't even in our store. |

Here is what I see...when I go to your store home page, click Albums, it opens to show 12x12. When I click 12x12 it tries to go to categoryID 322 which doesn't exist and causes an error. Did you replace the standard menu include file with something that you customized? I'm wondering because your navigation is centered and the "+" boxes don't show like the standard navigation. If you created your own navigation file, then even if you run the Generate Navigation, the file that Product Cart creates isn't updating. Also, it looks like the links are pointing to viewcat_h.asp which no longer exists in PC 3.x so it looks like you upgraded your navigation from a PC 2.x and didn't convert to use the new 3.x navigation. |

I never upgraded. I purchased version 3.04. Sorry I guess I posted 2 topics, only because i didn't think they were related to eachother, but i guess they sort of are.
I don't think I changed the standard include file, but you are correct that I did install the other inc_catemenuA.asp instead of using the one without the A. But I've reverted back to the standard one and removed all of the code on the header and footer for the other code and regenerated the navigation, but still nothing. :( I'm confused. I'm going to post my code for the inc_catsmenu.asp so you can see if I did edit it. |

Having read your other post about permissions on the PC folder, my only guess at this point on the invalid breadcrumbs is that the your subcategories have some "leftover" parent category settings in the database pointing to "categories" which is not valid. Or the "tier" didn't get switched correctly. You would need to view your categories table in SQL to determine that.

I have a very similar problem. I make minor changes in some products and when I attempt to review them it goes to the store window and I get the message, this is not a valid category. I feel confident I have updated the navigation and I have returned to the categories and updated the navigation again. I am very happy with Product Cart but this is getting very frustrating. I am 78 years old and not very Computer Competent but I can follow directions if they are detailed because I do not understand a lot of the Computer language. Please HELP if you can. Thank you, Monty!

Update - I saw this fix for a similar problem "view your categories table in SQL to determine that." This might work for me but how do I get to SQL to find the categories table and if I get there, what am I looking for? I REALLY NEED SOME VERY BASIC HELP.
