The latest ProductCart version now restores the shopping cart for returning customers. When this occurs in my store they get an error when they click continue from the shipping option.
Here are the conditions. When you have added a product to the cart and you close the browser, then return to the store, ProductCart now displays "We loaded back into the shopping cart items that you had added during your last visit, so you don't have to look for them again." If you click "View Cart" and proceed through the checkout when you get to the Shipping or Freight option all is fine until you click "Continue" Then you get, "There was an unexpected problem updating your order. Please contact us so we can help save your order, or try again." And it just keeps looping. |

Please make sure that you have applied the latest patches from the "Just In" section of our Support Center - in particular the "Restore Shopping Cart" fix posted in January:

I just tried that, no change.
Early Impact have responded to a support ticket, and said it appears to be related to my shipping rates calculation. No doubt they will get to the bottom of it soon. |

I have submitted a support ticket as well on this restore cart feature. In my ticket, the issue involves when the popup appears, and if you are logged in, and you click clear cart, it clears the cart and logs you out. So I have turned this feature off.

Hi avalight, I just wanted to clarify for other readers that you were specifically talking about a manual "saved cart" restore from the customer center. In the majority of cases a cart is being restored for returning customers. In other words, the cart is restored as soon as they arrive at the store well before they log into their account. Austcold's situation is not directly related to this feature, but the scenario you brought up is in the tracking system and waiting a patch.

Just to correct my last post.
The issue is calculating shipping weight not rates! |
