Howdy
Just implemented 3.5 to use the extended Custom Search features. One thing that really stands out is it should really have 2 options.
1) How it is now, where the page loads onto itself, for businesses that have a smaller product catalogue. Having the page continuasly loading on itself can be a little confusing for customers, better idea is
2) Where it provides the client to use a drop down list to select everything they want, then select go. Inside the category that it applies to, not in the header or footer.
I've seen a great example of how a custom seach feature with multiple criterias at this site.
(Sessions might have expired. go to Hardware>Cases and select a subCategory)
Anybody agree????
Rob

OK, Didn't get a reply to this, but we have implemented a new search feature. :)
https://www.epowermac.com.au/shop/pc/Search-All-Enclosures-c327.htm So basically, if you go to a category which there is a custom search items, it displays a full drop down menu of all the items. But if you go to a sub-cat, the menu limits to the search fields that are only valid for that subsection. eg here : https://www.epowermac.com.au/shop/pc/Portable-2-5-Enclosures-c362.htm Feedback? Thanks Rob |

Hi Rob,
I tried your new search with three separate sets of criteria and each time it lead to 0 products. This may be just chance, or that you haven't populated all the products yet. Personally I prefer the new drill-down widget as it always leads a customer to a product. See www.earlyimpact.com/demos/standard/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=5 for an example. Documentation on this can be found here : wiki.earlyimpact.com/productcart/search_fields_widget |

Hamish,
Try using it with a narrow search. Obviously if you choose something like a 2.5" enclosure, with 5 bays, with RAID level 5, nothing will come up. Plus it doesn't automatically reduce down the fields choices based on a previous selection. (Which ultimately, it should do) The drill down widget isn't good for us. Having the page continually reloading on itself + having 30 items from 5 sections, in the menu just doesn't work. I can show U the widget version for comparison. You'll see what I mean.. Anyway, just thought it was interesting that something could be done in this area, as im sure there is a lot of people who are looking for something similar. |
