    Posted: 09-March-2009 at 12:15pm
Hello all,

I am very new to pc and am responsible for updating a website with pc already up and running. It is a completely customized page with our own code put in for the website's shopping cart. I have two questions:

First: I noticed certain pages for the shopping cart have additional information on the pages. For instance... the following page has a description written on the top, but most others do not.
http://www.jubilibeadsandyarns.com/productcart/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=12

How is this? I tried accessing the file in dreamweaver but cannot seem to find it. I found our "viewcategories.asp" but not idCategory so I am assuming that is a pc thing. Where would I go to customize other pages like this?

Second: I think that after I figure out the first question it might answer the second, but just in case... my boss wants me to make one of the pages have links in it. So basically, she wants people to access this "holiday jewelry" catagory that has all the jewelry listed on one page but seperated in different sections so that when you click a link, it takes you to the top, bottom or middle of the page to those certain sections. (sorta like those "back to top" links). I know how to make them in dreamweaver, but I have no idea how to put them in pc.

Please help. My boss is getting impatient.

Thanks in advance!

viewcategories.asp is a page that contains a great deal of logic which reads from the database.  The reason you are seeing text at the page is because the category contains a desscription.  Please log in to your admin and select "manage categories" under the products menu and observe the editable fields.

You probably want to gain an understanding of how the products and categories are managed from the admin before digging in with Dreamweaver - you may be digging a  hole you won't enjoy digging out of - that being the case where you edited viewcategories.asp and caused unanticipated problems.

Thank you for such a quick response.

I found the description section you were talking about. Thanks!

Don't worry, I didn't touch any of the dreamweaver files. Just looked at them to see if I recognized anything that could help. Since I didn't, I asked for help here instead.

I realize I am jumping into pc head first without much knowledge, but unfortunately I am getting pressure from my boss to figure this out. So I still would like to know if there is anyway I can customize that one page to look and work slightly differently from the rest (using those "back to top" type links)

thanks

I'm not worrying about it - just hate to see anyone suffering self-inflicted damage.

What you are asking for on #2 is not a supported feature.  There are formatting options available for the category page, and those are described here http://wiki.earlyimpact.com/productcart/settings-display.  Additionally, those settings may be overriden at the category level.  You can also use built-in admin features to dictate the order in which categories and products appear.

Beyond manipulating what products appear in what category, and the order in which they appear, what you are describing is not supported.

Ok, that is good to know. At least I can give my boss that information and we can move on. Smile
Thank you so much again for your help. I really appreciate it!
