I need to reload my store categories, but first must clean out all the categories that are currently in the store. We are moving a store from the Zen Cart environment and there are 1500 categories that are nested up to 10 layers deep. Our first attempt loaded every category as a top level category and it would take us years to nest everything properly. We have permanently removed all the products and now need to clean out the categories and start again. What is the best way to do that? Also if anyone has any good advise on how we can load them again with all the nesting, please let me know. We know the parent of each category, but the last import process did not nest everything as we had hoped.

Hi Chris,
In my opinion the easiest way to do this would be directly through the database. At least, that would be the easiest way to remove the categories... A little understanding about the category database structure would go a long way here. Each category has an "idParentCategory" and a "tier" - the "idParentCategory" matches the "idCategory" of the Parent Category of the category you are in. Try a database insert now that you have that info, if it still doesn't work we'd be more than wiling to help you figure it out if you are still stuck. Amy

Thank you...that is exactly what I did and the reload worked perfectly. There were 1500 categories and I methodically entered a tier at a time and the end result was beautiful. Then the product load went smoothly also. I feel confident I can help any business migrate from ZenCart to ProductCart.
