Hi
New search feature does it address the big problem of singular plural sensitivity ?? If I search my store for orchids the result is 2 if I search my store for orchid the result is 12 Some results are returning 0 when I have 50 to choose from ......which is more damaging than having no search facility at all. It would look pretty stupid to customers too if all descriptions were listed twice as singular and plural in all other repects its great, so I hope this has been addressed perhaps it can be linked to the keywords not just the description. Anyone any ideas how to get around this ?? So now I'm having to consider google custom search but that doesn't return image results www.shiningimagegallery.com Any ideas please?? Thanks Kathy |

The only way to handle this is to have the word "orchids" in your description or title at least once. The ProductCart search engine will detect "orchid" within the word "orchids". In other words, make the word plural in your description to cover both plural and singular.

Ahhh
I wish I had known that 2500 images ago although the description is still going to read as if I need grammer lessons and Berber Knives doesn't show when the singular is Berber Knife Ho Humm!!! well can you please tell me how to edit or better still replace the message that I get saying "No Images to display." it definately needs to offer some help instead If I had a shop and said that to my customers I think they would quite rightly exit the door and never come back Must be a better solution surely Thanks Kathy |

In the case you just mention your description would need to contain "knife" and "knives".
Google can spell check and interpret grammar, yes, but they host a enormous array of resources. Just imagine the resources required for ProductCart to manage its own database of misspellings and grammar. At least in the short term a viable solution is to be creative with the description. You can update the "no results" message by modifying the following line in "includes/languages.asp": dictLanguage.Add "english_advSrcb_2", "No items to display." |

OK thanks for that isn't that a case for using keywording then (probably a good reason why not). But that is what I thought was used so I've been keywording like mad
So looks as though I need to back up with google ![]() Thanks for the where to find message Kathy |

I feel that most shoppers know how to search for items. You get used to do it correctly when using ebay or google. Consider putting the additional word like knife/knives into the description of the item, so it will become part of the search. This can be done in a descriptive manner. For example you only sell one "Cheese Knife", but worry that including the word knives implies that people get more then one. Just say things like "These brand of knives are made of high quality bla bla." I'm doing this for my products when there is a German name avaialable, since I sell German gift items. Sure I don't need the German word, since my site is in English and shoppers usually search in English. It does help with the occasional one that likes to use the German term for an item. On top it will index the item well in google with the additional word. Misspellings are another story.
Here is one for PC: Does the site search consider product key words? There we could put common misspellings without having it show in the products description. Katharina |

Hi Katharina
yes trouble is we are all used to using idiot proof search engines now and forget how to think logically And my sentiments too about the keywords that was where I was aiming all my efforts. Still have already changed the message to an appology and advice so feel better now ![]() Kathy |

Using the content of the Keywords Meta Tag is a good suggestion. This is not something that we can do for version 3.5, which is completely frozen and undergoing last minute fine-tuning, but we will keep it in mind for the future and possibly post it on the new ProductCart WIKI later this year.
Thanks for the suggestion. |
