No rates returned on large orders

   I am having no rates returned from UPS or Fed Ex when a certain total weight is added to the cart.  Is there an amount of total pounds that cannot be purchased with product cart?  

I also have a custom option of "Delivery" that is based on total price, not weight but rates are not being returned since the UPS server is still locking up the shipping rates tab in OPC.

Any suggestions?
