How do I have an email sent to me so I know when an order has been placed?

Have you tested your e-mail settings from the control panel?

If the store is able to send mail via the test tool, then you should be receiving an order notification of each new order automatically.  If the store is not sending e-mails, you may want to work with your host or a developer to resolve the issue.
