I have 1 category that I do not want to have showing up in the navigation. Therefore I made the category 'hidden', however....
I do like for the product to show up when people search for it. Is this possible? Of cos I have already created a link to it from some pages, but it would be great if the search (small box or advanced) will show it as well. Any help / suggestions welcome! Hi,
You could either, manually edit the generated menu to remove the category, or, if you regularly regenerate the menu, or are concerned about remembering to perform the edit, then you could edit the code that generates the menu to explicitly exclude that category. If you take either approach you can then make the category active again. |

I find this an interesting question.
There are many reasons one might not want to include a category in one's navigation, but may still want it searchable. As Hamish suggests, handling this from the menu side is one option; handling from the search query side is another option. I think I like Hamish's idea better though, so while we are developing our SEO-friendly left navigation add-on, I we're going to add in the option to exclude category for the regenerated menu. |

If you are making a developing an Add-on to exclude categories (great feature) could I suggest this is extended to exclude specific content pages too.

Thanks for the Reply.
Hamish, the part you mentioned 'taking it manually out of the navigation' would only be 1/2 the solution. I thought of this myself as well, but... If you go to the top level (in my case 'Browse by categories') it will show up in there. As that page is dynamically generated, there's no way I could take it out from there, is there? Please note that I'm not an ASP guru |

Hi, You are correct, but a small mod could be made to the viewCategories.asp.
