Folks,
My client uses UPS for a USA shipping and as you must know UPS does not deliver to PO BOX locations unless it's there own UPS Stores... With that said; when PC pulls shipping rates from UPS; UPS only uses City, State & Zip to calculate shipping rates so it will actually return a shipping rate for a PO Box address... This has happen a few times in the past few weeks; so I'm reaching out to find out if anyone has some type of solution to validate a shipping address is not a PO Box... I could place a message that states we don't ship to PO Box addresses but they would still place the order if they don't read that message... Has anyone has this issue and found or have a solution? Thanks in advance. Paul Edited by webpaul - 28-October-2010 at 8:19pm |

Hi Webpaul,
We just pass the address "as is" to UPS. So if rates are shown, it's because UPS returned them via the shipping API. You should get the same exact result at UPS.com (assuming the shipment is exactly the same). |

Has anyone done a mod to check UPS shipping addresses to see if they are commercial or residential. Our Quickbooks will automatically do that when we ship UPS. We are losing a lot of money from customers that check commercial when they are actually residential.

Yes, Not to mention the address corrections that could have been caught by an address validator. They are Expensive corrections, not just time consuming. I know that UPS has some of these tools, can they be eventually added to the API or installed as add ons?
We make sure it defaults to residential (since most of our customers are) and generally folks keep to that pretty well, we catch a few cheaters but not very often. |

I think there needs to be a address validator and not let the customer select whether they are residential or commercial. We are getting more & more customers selecting commercial when they are not. We have asked some customers why they selected commercial & they think just because they have a business in there home that it automatically makes them a commercial address. Hope there can be a change in this soon.
