I have moved my site from its old host to a GoDaddy server. I was able to migrate the database using the Database Publishing Wizard, and it looks like it is ok. I changed the StoreContstants file to reflect the new Database connection settings and i can go to the /pcadmin page to log in. However, when i type my username and password, i get a response that it is incorrect. I am certain i have typed it correctly, but nothing i have tried has let me in. I have clicked on the reset password link and i never receive an email.
Is there a way to reset the password? In other systems i am able to simply edit the db table directly and replace the hashed password with another one. However, i am not certain what hash code your system uses. Thanks in advance, Jeremy |

what a pity you chose to move to Godaddy. There are posts all over this forum about people who have trouble hosting their stores there, and how that is really not a suitable solution for serious stores. Also not certain about your strategy of using Database Publishing Wizard to move the database. Typically what we do is to obtain a .bak backup of the SQL database and restore it to the new server. That could be contributing to your issues.

GoDaddy is just a temporary solution to host this client until i get my MS server patched up and ready. The client is having PCI compliance issues with his previous host and I am trying to help with that.
The DB Publishing wizard is not exactly how i did it, but it is similar. GoDaddy does not allow .bak files from external sources to be restored to their SQL servers. They recommend using the DPW, but it only works in SQL 2005. Since the client was on SQL 2008 R2, i couldnt go that route. Instead, i installed SQL 2008 R2 on my computer, restored the database there, then used the Export data feature to push the data from my server to GoDaddy's server. Everything seems to be there and looks correct, but i am still unable to log in.
I used the PW Recovery file that was sent to me by WPS support and it returns empty values. I tried blank passwords, but i get an error. Does anyone have better solutions for me? I am not exactly married to GoDaddy, but I dont want to get into a long term contract or make a huge investment as this is only a temporary solution. |

It sounds like the database is corrupt. This is the most common reason for problems after moving the store. The wizards in SQL Manager often lead to missing data, lost identity columns, and lost primary keys. You'll probably need to move it again. The correct procedure is outlined here:

Thanks for the link Matt. I read through that and the only reference to the DB migration process i found was that this process "should be performed by an experienced DBA". I have administered and migrated many databases in the past, but I admittedly do not know everything there is to know about the process. It might be helpful to update that document to link to a set of instructions on how to migrate the data. If not instructions, perhaps a set of requirements that DB hosting servers must meet in order to succesfully host ProductCart DB's. It seems that some of you feel that GoDaddy does not meet these requirements. That is helpful information. That said; I would appreciate any information that you can provide to help me help my client.
My goals are: Migrate Client's website and ProductCart 4.1 cart database from existing web hosting service to a new web hosting service. Minimize cost and complexity Accomplish this within 3 days Would hosting with GearHost or one of the other preffered providers on your site help me to accomplish these goals? Thanks for your responses so far. I sincerely appreciate your help in this matter. |

Well, it says there are two options, but yes we recommend the "migration" option be completed by a DBA. We cannot post step-by-step instructions for moving the database because it is always different depending on the host and it should just be done by a DBA. I don't play favorites because we have so many awesome developers and resellers, but if you PM me I can tell you which resellers I know have done "migrations" (not backup and restores). The truth is that there is no comparison between GoDaddy and our resellers. The guys posting above are going to take awesome care of you. However, GoDaddy has a purpose and meets the needs of some smaller stores. We have several development and testing stores setup on GoDaddy. I'm not recommending them though... especially over a reseller that knows ProductCart inside and out. You may want to start with the guys that took the time to post to your questions.

Jeremy, if you would like to be moved, I could assist you today. Give me a ring if you would like an assist. We are well-accustomed to making certain that PCI compliance issues, if and when they happen to arise, are swiftly remediated.
