Hi

a feature that would be generally useful in a future version is showing a customer items that have recently viewed (but not ordered).   Amazon etc use this and it's very good.

Yes, we agree and already have this on our internal wish list, so it will likely be included in v3.1.  You can see a ProductCart store where the customer actually implemented this customization:

Go ahead and start clicking around on several product details pages, and then notice that your recently viewed products will appear on the subsequent product details pages.  They did a very nice job on the site (imo).

thanks for confirming this will come soon. 

I like the example done in the store link provided - very neat.

It would also be good to show this information on the 'featured products' page to a customer when implemented.  

Amazon for example show it this way at the store home page when the customer returns to it.

Are you all still adding this (recently viewed items) feature for the new version 3.1 in June? I just want to make sure, so I don't try to program this myself. :)

Yes, a "Recently Viewed Products" feature will be included in v3.1.  It will function like this:

  • A separate file (pc/smallRecentProducts.asp) will be included in the shopping cart interface (similar to what we do with the small shopping cart summary -- pc/smallShoppingCart.asp).
  • The file will display a list of N recently viewed products when N > 0  (nothing will be shown when N = 0).
  • The list of recently viewed product IDs will be saved to a cookie on the customer's system.
  • The store manager will have a way to indicate the maximum products to show (e.g. 10 recently viewed products) via a variable that can be changed at the top of the file.
  • Ability for the visitor to clear the list.

    Excellent news, I know this will be very popular with our customers. 

    People get used to seeing such features at Amazon, so seeing it in our stores will help re-enforce the professionalism we bring.

    I'm intrigued about other things coming in v3.1.  Is there a list?
