Gift Certificates and Coupon Codes

   I use "coupon codes" ALL the time and run sales.  I also sell gift certificates to the online store.  However a customer was using a copon code along with trying to redeem his gift certificate and it will only allow him to use ONE.  EVEN though I have the coupon code  set to "allow this discount to be used with other discounts".
Anyway I can have somebody buy something "on sale" but also be able to use their gift certificates...? They HAVE been able to enter 2 coupon codes with a (,) comma in-between and that works out fine.  Is this a preference on the gift certificate end?
