H2 use FREE SHIPPING in US but excl international

   I need your help!

I typically calculate international shipping on the basis of custom service and charge on a weight basis. This works fine for 90% of my products.

10% of my products are listed as automatic free shipping for ONLY domestic destinations.

The free shipping option on a product prevents the items from adding to the weight to the order. This is logical and works well. It allows a cart that contains both freee shipped and non-free shipped items to be correctly calculated for domestic markets. However, if the shipping option is on a country basis, there now is now NO total weight order variable to work with. Consequently the free shipped  items also free ship internationally.

My need is that the free shipping applies only to US shipping destinations.

Does anyone have a custom coded work around they have figured out and can share?
