We are using ProductCart for a wholesale-only B-to-B ordering site. A few consumers have found our site and registered themselve to place an order.
1) Can we make it where ProductCart will not allow site visitors to create their own accounts?
2) When we imported our existing customer list from our in-house system, everyone got created as a retail customer. What is the proper database field/value to set using a SQL update query so I can change them all to wholesale, and then make it so only wholesale customers can place orders?
Thanks.

Hi Brian,
In the customer table, customerType (data type int) must contain a 1 to indicate a wholesaler.

Hi Brian,
See the following page on the WIKI :- http://wiki.earlyimpact.com/developers/dealer_only_store Please check whether you wish to use Customer Groups or Wholesale (or both) by referring to a different WIKI page : http://wiki.earlyimpact.com/productcart/customer-type |

Hi, just wanted to let you know how we do it. We do have retail and wholesale, but you can use this method to set it up the way you need it. Create a page with wholesale information and sign up information. We require wholesalers to print/fill out that page, fax it and proof of business to us. Then we manually set up a wholesale account, and email them back. You can leave the signup (My Account) intact, but make sure that it states wholesale pricing will only be available to approved customers, after providing business proof. This also means that they will not see wholesale pricing until the process has been completed. Take a look at www.germanplaza.com Wholesale signup is near the end of the page. I suppose you leave it all automatic, but I prefer some form to proof and approval by us.

Hi Katherina,
I had a look at your germanplaza.com store and it looks a bit strange in my monitor. The main part of the website is left justified and appears with the content but it also loads a blank page to the right?
Just thought I'd mention it.

I've looked at it with IE and Firefox and don't seem to see it. The page is left aligned and set to a width of 800, and the background image starts over again at that point. Perhaps it appears strange like that.

You must have a monster of a screen! What resolution are you using? I did set up the site for 800 pixel width for those that have smaller monitors, or those that still use the AOL interface to look at sites. You will be surprised how many of them do! This means, that others that use higher resolution, will see blank spaces on the right hand side. I know it looks funny on those screens, but it does work for those with lower resolutions. I actually run on a low resolution with my large monitor, but that is because of my eye sight getting worse. Age gets you eventually. LOL I'm considering upgrading the site to 1024 pixel width. Perhaps with the next upgrade of PC.

Yes, I use a high resolution (and strong reading glasses LOL). Mine is set at 1440x900. When I set it down to 1280x720 your site looked fine in IE but still had the white space in FF.
If you're interested, here is a link to screen resolution stats. http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_display.asp Scroll down to Screen Resolution. Alan |
