Just wanted to thank WSM for his cool FREE add on
http://wiki.earlyimpact.com/widgets/thirdparty/addthis_social_media

I've downloaded it and it is really easy to install.  WSM gives you installation instructions, and it is really simple to follow.  It takes less then 5 minutes to install.  That gives you the basic look.

To get more different looks go to the www.addthis.com help section.  Some of them require the addition of some CCS code, which they give you on that site.  The CSS code needs to be added to the pcStorefront.css found in the PC folder.  The html look needs to be changed in the AddThis-SMM.asp file in the pc/custom folder you create once you down load this add on from WSM.   Again they give you samples on the addthis.com website.  I did look at many of their options and decided for what best suited my site.  I sorted them by tools, email services, social networking, bookmarking, and more destinations.  You can see how I've implemented it at:
http://www.germanplaza.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=2886&idcategory=390

Addthis is being used by a lot of site, like weather.gov and even Amazon.  It's time to hop on.

I love the Amazon wish list icon it generates.  It lets customers on your site add your products to their Amazon wish list.  Way cool!

Again, thank you WSM for the free add on.

Katharina

Thanks, Katharina Smile

It's been a very popular download.

AddThis is really simple to install, but I thought I'd make it even easier for ProductCart merchants and raise some awareness about this awesome tool. It's getting darn near ubiquitous on the web!

I didn't even know about the Amazon wishlist option, though! Just tried it on your site . . . wicked cool!

The Amazon alone is worse it!  I like the way the email button works too.  I know it is duplication of the wish list from PC.  Only it raises just this tiny window without going to another screen.  I like that a lot.   So I adopted for my site the most used and the most useful ones for a store in the USA.  I've also grouped them in a meaningful matter.  I love the statistics they supply on their site, it surely helps in deciding on what to use.

I've been using the AddThis toobar on some of my sites for a while now and think its a great addition. I use a different one than on your sample site. Its a smaller toolbar with the drop down and a link to an even larger dropdown. I have to confess I havent heard of half the  links in the detailed dropdown.

You can see the one I'm using in the top right of this page:

I would use it like that on top of a page too, but I find it more convenient for the customer to give them my store choices first.  Check out your statistics and see what is being used most.  Right now the Amazon wish list tool is turning out the top one used on my site.  Never mind that I'm using it for only a week, so I may revise my choices down the road.  I may even reduce what I've set up.  Time will tell.

Sean, take a look at addthis.  They have added a new feature which will record the click back ratio.  This makes it more interesting but it requires a little bit more code.  Really simple.  Here is the info from them:

Measure clickback traffic to your pages

AddThis can measure how much traffic is brought to your pages from visitors sharing your content with our tools. This is accomplished by appending a variable to your URLs when they are shared. We then use this variable to track how many people come back to your content from those links.

To enable this feature, be sure you have defined addthis_config and set the following variable to TRUE:

<script type="text/javascript">
var addthis_config = {
data_track_linkback: true
}
</script>

Important: This change must be made to all instances of your AddThis code.

Hi All,

This is great!  Been thinking of adding AddThis for a while now.  The Wiki says for Product Cart 3.51, will it work for V4 as well?

Thanks!

Yes you can add it to Version 4 or anywhere you like. Add-this is not Productcart dependent and can be added to any website.

Thanks, Katharina.

I've updated the mod to include both the Amazon wishlist by default and the back link tracking.

I've also updated the wiki to state that this is compatible with any version of product cart (frankly, the exact same installation would work on any ASP site/page).
