Highlighted featured products

I'm been putting the finishing touches to a new website i've been building, i switched on a couple of products as featured products and noticed the images have traditional hyperlink borders, this hasnt happened to my category pages.  Has anyone else experienced this?  any idea's where to start, i've rolled the homepage back to the original, and the header and storefront.css but still the same.  If i view the homepage on my Mac using Safari everything looks fine but on my IE9 (Win7) laptop I get the hyperlink borders
