Earlier I asked about an enhancement that would verify customer customer entered address and postal code against a database and offer a correction based on the external database. This would help customer give complete and accurate deliverable address. see http://www.earlyimpact.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=3934&KW=zip+code
Turns out the USPS API I suggested is expensive and limited to postal shipments. I recently found another data source for US and Canada address verification at http://www.melissadata.com/. I don't know cost or details but I'm again suggesting that it would be a great enhancement to help (or force) the customer to give a deliverable address. In another software package (MAS90) we use Melissa Data supplied through Avalara's destination based sales tax software (Avatax) to make sure the system knows the exact location to charge the correct jurisdictional based tax. It works well there. This would be a very useful feature for Product Cart in a future release. |

I agree it would be a very useful feature. We get customers putting in wrong addresses all the time...then we get charged from UPS for address changes...

Does anyone know if this will be a feature in the next product cart upgrade?

This might be a good place to start:
http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/javascript/v2/examples/geocoding-extraction.html http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/javascript/v2/services.html#Geocoding_Structured The first link takes an address and shows the point on the map. It also formats the address and shows it in the text bubble. Extracting the formatted address would probably be sufficient. However, not displaying the map alongside the address is probably a violation of the API's terms of use. |

Actually, this pretty much sums it up: http://www.telnet80.com/2010/09/address-validation-using-google-maps.html
Looks like a lot of work, so your best bet is probably to contact one of the developers on the list of developers page. |
