Hello,

We have been selling on the Internet for about 9 years now.

We started (and still sell) on eBay.

For those of you who have used eBay (90%+) you are familiar with the insurance option that is offerer by most reputable eBay sellers.

For $1 or $2 extra you can purchase shipping insurance on your purchase. This is to ensure that if your package arrives damaged, you may file a claim with the shipping provider to get your money back.

I have been asking for this option in Product Cart for several years now, but have not had any progress.

To me, it would be so simple...have an option that offers insurance on a flat rate based on the order value (ie. $100 order = $1 ins., $200 order = $2 ins, $300 order = $3 ins, etc).

For those of you who sell on eBay, you know how valuable the insurance option is. Last year alone we took in over $1000 in insurance alone. The customers love it. They want to know that if their package arrives damaged, they don't have to worry about it.

Does anyone else see the need for shipping insurance?
If so, be sure to contact Product Cart:

As a Product Cart user of over 4 years, I have helped resolve a countless number of bugs. Now, Early Impact seems to be outsourcing their tech support (who will now answer your question with a question of their own). I have requested many times to have a shipping insurance option added, but this does not seem to be a concern, even though it would be something so simple for them to implement. At the moment they may be too preoccupied creating add-ons to generate more revenue.

Hopefully, they will recognize that this is a legitimate option, that eBay (the #2 Internet sales website in the world) has been offering with success for more than a decade!! Let's get on board please...

Thank you,
Brandon Kats

With carriers like UPS and FedEx, insurance is already provided automatically by the carrier (and see this FAQ for details on how to change the way it is calculated).

Your other comments seem quite unfair: see this thread for a reply.

You know online retailers do not run their business like ebay sellers do.  It is not a standard to offer insurance and then tell customers tough luck if they did not get it.  It give more a bad taste into someone mouth, if you have to buy insurance.  It look like you don't pack well and basically fork it over to insurance.  FedEx and  UPS insure up to 100 dollars automatically, above that you buy it.  We ship a lot with postal service and never had any real insurance problems or breakage.  What we do is insure everything that is over 100 dollars our selves.  The insurance amount it so little that we simply suck it up.  Besides you should have enough profit margin to afford it on items over 100 dollars.
