It would be nice if productcart didn't show the URL of all the images to prevent hotlinking and also something to prevent images from being downloaded.

Whizz - to prevent hotlinking you might want to consider http://www.helicontech.com/hotlinkblocker/

As for preventing images from being downloaded, that's nearly impossible.  If an image or any other object is browsed on the web, it is downloaded to the visitor's computer.  With sufficient skills, they can find that file in their browser cache. There are schemes such as a javascript that will prevent right-click, but then you just go to the browser's menu and view source in order to form a URL to the image.

If competitors are downloading images and that's causing you grief, you need to consider watermarking your product images.

Hi Whizzinpc - I'm in agreement with Greg here. The only way to discourage images being copied is to watermark them. Every other approach can be bypassed, usually in several ways. Everything from righ click & saving to taking a screenshot.

Hotlinking is a different matter - Google is your friend here & prevention is a hosting issue not a ProductCart one.

If anyone is interested... we ended up using our existing isapi rewrite instead of installing hotlink blocker. Here is the code for v2.0

# Block image hotlinking
RewriteCond %HTTPS (?!on).*
RewriteCond Host: (.+)
RewriteCond Referer: (?!http://\1.*).*
RewriteRule .*\.(?:gif|jpg|png) /block.gif [I,O]
