I've been having a horrific time getting my latest installment of productcart to send emails. I'm using Godaddy (another installment last year, also hosted with godaddy, worked fine).

This says use CDOSYS + relay-hosting.secureserver.net
http://www.earlyimpact.com/faqs/e-commerce_shopping_cart_questions.asp?faqid=315

My other installation used CDONTS + localserver

Godaddy says to use CDONTS + relay-hosting.secureserver.net, but now they are telling me that the ProductCart script is the problem and they can't help me. They gave me sample script to use and it is identical to ProductCart!

I set up an SPF record and I thought that worked, but after two successful test emails it stopped working again.

Has anyone accomplished this recently? EI seems to think the higher security on the net is making it hard, and there's info on the web to support that idea... but no solutions.

Help! I can't open the store until the emails are working...

EDIT: and this time I think I'm willing to hire someone to help

Stacelynn

For testing purposes, we have ProductCart-powered Web stores setup all over the place. That includes GoDaddy. I just checked one of these test stores that we use here internally at Early Impact and can confirm successfully sending e-mails with these settings:
  • CDOSYS
  • localhost
  • No authentication
The Test Message sent from the Control Panel's e-mail setting page ended up in my Outlook SPAM folder, so make sure to check SPAM folders too.

Let us know how it goes.

If only it were that easy! Like I said I already have a store that works fine with GoDaddy, and this new one has been enough to make me sob at 4am - which i did last night before i finally gave up and went to bed.

I have tried EVERY possible configuration, altered the blasted scripts back and forth, reinstalled a fresh version of them, you name it. I have charts of exactly what I've done and at what time, allowing time between tests... everything.

GoDaddy has completely given up and won't even reply to my emails with anything but a "We believe this is a problem with ProductCart" which is hogwash because I know - like you say - that there are plenty of examples of when it does work fine.

I've now managed to get the emails, just not for hours. That simply isn't going to do. I've scoured the internet only to learn that others are just as confused as to why some sites get rapid emails and others pitiful like mine.

I'll give it a couple more days of trying different things, and then I'll have to consider a new cart or a new host. :(

Try using a completely different, hosted SMTP service such as: http://www.authsmtp.com

Many of us use it at Early Impact because it allows you to send e-mails from your laptop regardless of which Internet connection you are using (airport, hotel, office, home, ... you name it). It works great and it's pretty inexpensive.

However, I don't believe any of us has tested this from a Web application. Give it a try and see how it goes. Please post back to let us know as it could certainly help other users that have SMTP issues.

Hi Stacelynn,

I've had similar issues with emails working on one store and not on another even when both the stores appear to be set up identically and bot are hosted on my own server !

Invariably it comes down to the set up or one particluar file that didn't upload properly and not productcart or the webhost.

Does your host have any of the aspmail components available? - they usually work just fine.

What happens when you send a test email to yourself form the control panel - what error message do you get?

Stacelynn mentioned CDONTS which I believe is the sole mail component offered by GoDaddy.  So no, I suspect ASPMAIL is not an option for her.

getting rid of godaddy for this site was my only option - I tried EVERYTHING including hopping it to other shared servers of theirs, using outside SMTP services etc

Works fine now that its hosted elsewhere (hmmm, love how they said it couldn't possibly be them!) The internet was so littered with complaints about relay problems at godaddy that I knew it wasn't unique to me.
