We are opening an online reselling business and will be having the customer orders drop shipped from various locations. Does anyone else do this and how do you charge the customer for shipping?

I have a few clients who confront the same issue. The only solution we have been able to come up with was to set the zip code in the shipping settings to a mid-point out in the middle of the country so that calculations were based on such a central location, then perhaps build a small (hidden) upcharge into the shipping if you are concerned that you are not collecting enough. Sorry I don't have a better answer, and I do realize this takes a bit of fiddling to determine what will work.

We have just released an Add-on which allows you to calculate shipping from the drop shipper's location. You can find it by going to this page: http://wiki.earlyimpact.com/widgets/thirdparty/calculate_shipping_from_drop_shipper. There is an example here and quite a bit of information. It is available for all builds, version 3.51 and above. See EI's blog piece about it here: http://blog.earlyimpact.com/2010/04/calculating-shipping-charges-when.html. Amy |
