I am using Keyword-rich URLs with version 4.5.

I can't tell if this is a ProductCart bug or if it is just the way ProductCart works.  But I am concerned what the impact to SEO would be.  Can anyone offer some insight with their experience with this?

So here is an example:

In the title for a product, let's say I used the words "Testing One Two Three".  So the static HTML page generated would be the below and google would find it fine.

http://www.example.com/store/pc/Testing-One-Two-Three-p1114.htm

I later renamed the title for the same product item to "Testing Four Five Six".  So the new static HTML page generated would be the below and google would find it fine.  The differerence in URL is highlighted in red.

http://www.example.com/store/pc/Testing-Four-Five-Six-p1114.htm

The problem is, after I renamed the title for the same product, both the new and old staticly generated HTML pages are now pointing to the same product page content, meaning the old staticly generated HTML is not obsoleted.

As Google already knew of the old static HTML page and now Google finds the new static HTML page, Google ended up having in its web index both static pages, that are pointing to the same page content since it is the same product ID.  With that said, Google penalizes for have duplicate pages with the same page content.  Since I am renaming the title for a large number of product pages, this problem is being replicated across the product line.

Is this normal and expected?  Or is this a bug? I can't tell.  Since I renamed the product page title, regenerated a brand new static product HTML page, the old static product HTML page still works and can be found still by the search engines that already had indexed it and thus duplicated pages with the search engine.

Lastly, I don't know what caused the static page URL to change unexpectledy, but the static page somehow changed with maybe the category number now also being included.  The new difference in URL is highlighted in red.  So the described problem above will end up now having three ProductCArt static pages pointing to the same item.

If anyone offer some insight or experience with this, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Early Impact explained to me there isn't any issue with content duplication as the static pages make use of Canonical URLs. As such, Google bot will understand that the first link is a copy of the second one, and that the correct one is the one listed in the Canonical URL.  Just sharing this knowledge with the others on the forum as a function of my earlier posting.  Thank you Early Impact for answering in such details on a Saturday!  Thumbs Up

You will find the first disappears in time. There is a short period where Google will have both indexed.
