This may seem like the stupidest question ever, but how do I know if my store is using SQL or Access? My store was set up originally by my host, so I do not know which type of store I have.

Since your store is already setup, login to your control panel, click the Help menu and then Troubleshooting Utility. The fourth section is called Database connection string. Read through the notes in that section and it should tell you.
