Hi! I am developing a site for a client that sells ebooks and continuing education testing. When they buy a product - such as an ebook, I use the "downloadable product" feature and they get a link to the ebook. The link is active for 10 days. My first problem is how to use a license generator. I get the general gist of doing the licence generator, but my problem lies in how this randomly generated number, that the customer receive via email, is used to open my pdf file? I must be missing something, but I just don't see how the two connect. Also, does anyone have a suggestion on who to go to build a license generator? The other problem is that my client has a few products that are mixed bundles - so they have an ebook and an online test (which I also offer as a CD), so the link that I generate actually goes to a page that has links for both the book pdf and the link to the start of the online test. So is not possible for me to hide these links and/or make them expire? (so the customer cannot go back many times by bookmarking the links). Or even be able to generate two different links in the very beginning? Thanks,

<<<my problem lies in how this randomly generated number, that the customer receive via email, is used to open my pdf file? >>> You are not missing anything. What's missing is that the generator is simply an example of what might be done, but that's it. It is not offered as or intended to be a complete solution. It's an example that happens to work a little, but would likely have to be significantly altered to play a role in a serious DRM (digital rights) solution. Such a DRM application is http://www.cbprotect.com/. I recently completed a request for a client who sells sheet music online. He wanted to generate a random license key and to cause that value to appear on the download page which was also modified to include some licensing terms and the quantity sold. The request involved a couple hours of messing with the license generator and other scripts to achieve his goals. As for your second issue, are you saying that if they start the online test that you want the download to expire immediately? And if they happen crash their browser during the test and want to get back in, they arou out of luck? Only if it is re-activated by the admin? Is this what you want? |
