All our items have sku's that are numbers. When I search for a partial sku number like 05-301-06 and a KW like green it will never pull up an item "No items to display". Even though we have lots of 05-301-06 with KW of green in the short description and name. Is there a specific reason for this or could there be a problem with our cart?

I'm not exactly sure if I read your post right or there's a typo somewhere in your post.
You said "Even though we have lots of 05-301-06 with KW of green in the short description and name.". The SKU should be in the SKU field and not in the 'short description and name' like you stated??? |

Can you post a link to your site?
Also, Have you seen the other thread about search - EA are working on a new version of search which I believe is in Beta at the moment - Search the forums for 18,000 or beads for the thread in question. |

Answer: If you are searching for a keyword phrase the search will try to match both words with product details. If both words are in the same location (e.g. the description or SKU) then it will match. However, if one word is in the description and another in the SKU it will not match. You could say, the more general the search the greater the results. I believe what you are asking for is that each word in a phrase is broken out into a separate search, but one in which all results are grouped together. Unfortunately, that takes a lot of server resources and could become slow. For instance, if the customer searched for 3 or more keywords and the algorithm had to check each field for each word. We do have the issue in our system, but there will not likely be a solution in the very near future. The good news is that most customers do not search by a SKU and keyword. If they know the SKU then they do not (usually) try to narrow it down further, as the SKU usually represents one product. Try to make sure most search terms related to products are contained in the description for best search performance. |

Matt you hit it on the nose. We are trying to search both the SKU field and description at the same time. Part SKU with a separate KW.
Thanks for the answer. Pretty much we just use that for internal use but were still wondering if we could get it to work. Thanks again for being so helpful. You guys are awesome. |

You can do searches on SKU and Keyword from the Advanced search as you can enter each criteria in a different field.
