Does anyone have an idea to be able to make a featured product have a start and end date?

Please advise.

Based on how the application is currently designed, the only solution would be custom programming.  And if you set an expiry date to a product, you have to also give consideration to what happens then.  Do you end up with no featured products if all of them are expired?  And if that's not desirable, what gets displayed in such a case.  Those sort of considerations need to be contemplated and provided for.

Actually, this site is a 'deal-of-the-day' website, and it will ONLY have one product visible each day. The home page will display this product - we were thinking to use the featured product option -  and it will expire at 12AM. At that point, we will have the next product in the database display as the featured product. The product will be added to the cart from the home page.

Another thought would be to use the 'viewprd.asp' page as the home page of the site and then we wouldn't have to work with the featured product option, however we would have to make some sort of adjustment in the admin area so that the products can be assigned to specific dates of the year.

This is always something that made me wonder with deals stopping at midnight.  How do you deal with time zones.  Does it end at midnight Eastern and the other zones earlier (perhaps making some customers unhappy), or do you go directly for Hawaii and the other zones get extra time.  Just a thought...

Well, it's just a matter of what the site design looks like and how you want this "deal" to appear, and of course your coding skills.

One approach might be to to introduce a new field into which you place that date.  This may or may not be the best way of adding such a field, but see http://wiki.earlyimpact.com/productcart/managing_search_fields for one approach.  Another approach would simply be to manually add the column to the database and edit the product admin tools.  Or have a secondary table of dates and "deal" products.

Then you might edit the home page and instead of narrowing your focus specifically on the "featured product" display functionality, think about using that same space but in an alternate way.  One could script a routine to examine the current date, use that to determine which product was assigned to that date, and display it regardless of the "featured product" setting.

Hope that helps.

Is this something that you would be able to do for us, and if so, how much would you charge for your services?
