    Posted: 05-August-2009 at 4:32pm
Is there anyone out there that created a modified version of the registration page (login.asp) that automatically assigns the customer status (e.g. automatically sets the customer as a wholesale customer or assigns the customer to a specific customer pricing category).

I would appreciate if someone would be able to provide me with the modified code so that I could implement this feature on my site.

Thanks!

I can't think of reason why you want to do this

I am trying to set up a 'dealer site' so that different customer groups can login and view different content and wholesale pricing specific to them. I will be giving each customer group a different point of entry to the site - a regular html page - with a general login on it- not related to product cart.

Once they gain entry to the site, by using the correct username and password combination (provided by me - in advance) I will redirect them to their own unique login page. They will then register as a product cart customer. I would like their status to be automatically set to a specific customer pricing category in order to avoid having to manually assign the customer status. I would like them to be able to shop immediately, instead of waiting for a confirmation that their status has been changed.

Does that make sense?

Maybe you can think of better way to go about it.

If you are setting up the user name and password in advance for the customers unique login page could you also set the user up in productcart at the same time with the same user name and password and also the customer type.

It would be easier to reverse the process and set the productcart user up first and redirect your customer to the content you want via productcart.

This may not be practical if you have 1000's of customers.

Yes, but the product cart username & password works with an email address. The login that I am providing will be the same generic login for all customers specific to their own group.

Once they enter product cart, they will set up an account using their email address and personal password. I do not know their email addresses - if I would, I definitely would set it up in advance via Product Cart.

Maybe you can think of a better way for me to accomplish this...

I understand this better now - thanks.

What you are requesting would require custom coding. I would recommend adding your own custom user name and password to productcarts database or creating a cross link to the database you hold them in. The registration page would have to be modified to check to see if anything is in these new fields for the customer and if it is then add them to the customer type which you have predefined for them.

I still think there must be a better way to achive what you want. If you already have  custom login and page setup for them could you ask the customer for an email address and then send them the login details for productcart?
