Here is my situation:

I am trying to manage 1200 products on this website.  I got all the SKU's, Product Names, Descriptions, Prices, etc. in order in the spreadsheet (that took forever!)

Now, I need to upload the product images.  Basically, I have ALL the product images in one folder on my local C:  What I was thinking about doing was doing a batch resize into 3 different sizes (150, 250, 450px), and then a bulk-rename utility to rename all of them so I can recognize the image names with the SKU to put into the spreadsheet.  Then after everything is in sync, uploading the images to the right folder on the server, then upload the spreadsheet and cross my fingers everything lines up.

Does this seem like the best way to get all those images online?  I keep finding myself going back to the Control Panel and uploading them individually.

To make things worst, alot of the products have multiple images associated with them!

help!

Hi,
Yes, definitely the best approach IMHO.
I've done this a couple of times and go for a scheme along the lines of :
sku_S.jpg
sku_
M.jpg
sku_
L.jpg

It makes keeping track of them and adding them to the spreadsheet much much easier.
It will almost certainly be easier to rename them to the SKU before generating the 3 versions - 1/3rd of the renaming to do!

I have 2000 images, and used the photo resize program called Arles Image Web Creator from www.digitaldutch.com.  They have a 30 day trial version, and then 49 EU,  which is cheap for the amount of time it saves, plus the images can be done in bulk to any size you want, plus it uses image sharpening , plus you can add a suffix or prefix to the newly created files.  I found that Arles creates sharper photos than photoshop, with smaller file sizes.  I highly recommend this software.

For file naming, I used t-, g- and d- in front of all the product file names as I created them in Arles.  On my spreadsheet I used for importing product data to PC, I  used a formula to create those file names.  (BTW, I like the prefix method of file naming better than adding the size designation as a suffix because when viewing in explorere or ftp, all the sizes are grouped together by size. When working with so many files, it is just easier to find files, is all.) Then, I uploaded all the photo files using my ftp.

Hope this adds to your knowledge.

This would be very good content for the WIKI, for example in the HOW TO section:

Ok - so this works fine for one image per product -

but what if you want to add multiple images to the product?  Can that be handled in the spreadsheet as well?

Hi,
You can add the Small Medium and Large images to a product via the spreadsheet  - or rather let ProductCart know which images are associated with a product, but at the moment you cannot add "additional images" via this method.

I am currently building my website, and have created product small, medium and large jpg images and category smal and large images. I uploaded the images to the server and added the corresponding name to a spreadsheet I exported from the site. However when I upload the spreadsheet, some categories have images, others do not. Some products have images, others do not. There is no logic to the items that have the images as everything is identical on the spreadsheet image wise. I have also tried reuploading the spreadsheet as well as updating the categories in the storefront, none of which seems to be making any difference.
