I would really like to have the ability to assign shipping options to specific products. I have a client that sells ATVs, motorbikes, t-shirts, hats, and more. Some of those items (like t-shirts and hats) are small enough to ship via the usual providers. But other items (like the ATVs & motorbikes) have to be shipped by freight. And at the same time, it would be ridiculous to ship a hat by freight. It would be great to be able to specify or restrict shipping options on a per product basis, so that the customer will only be able to choose a shipping method that would be appropriate for the item.

My 2 cents.

I second this...it has long standing been a need for us to do this as well.  There are some items we only wish to ship internationally via a certain method (USPS) and not others.

Me to, we are having items that can melt or spoil when hot.  Chocolates for example.  Would be nice to force a shipping speed for them.

Yes it would also be nice to be able to apply a flate rate shipping fee per item.

Four stores and several years ago... ;)

Glad to see others are interested too.  I was being to think we were just freaks! (which we may still be, but, at least there are others with needs like ours)

We have the same problem. I'm going to have to write the code for another custom shipping option to do it.

I figure I add a new field called ShippingCost to the products table and go from there.

I have a problem that I can't get any of the custom shipping options to appear. Anyone else find that?

We sell a lot of calendars that ship via USPS Media Mail. However we do not want customers to be able to choose Media Mail for any items other than calendars.

Any ideas?

You could offer free shipping on the calendars, and bump up the price by a couple dollars...
