When I FTP to the productcart catalog folder to add pictures, it's EXTREMELY slow because the FTP program lists all the files in that folder. There is currently no option to separate product photos into different folders. Having them all thrown into the same location is a nightmare, especially when trying to find ones to delete or reviewing.

I have 3 pictures of each product and over 1,000 products = 3,000 pictures. I want to add several thousand more products. I'd be willing to add the path to a different folder, but even that doesn't work.

I think sub-folders should be created in the catalog folder to store product photos numerically & alphabetically. (Sorting by store category would not be good if you have a product listed under more than one category.)

Thanks for considering this to eliminate a huge nightmare for many of us!

Storing images in sub-folders of "pc/catalog" should indeed work. There are many ProductCart-powered stores that do so. The only thing that you need to keep in mind is that when you add image file names on the Add/Edit product pages, you need to remember that ProductCart assumes that every image is in the "catalog" folder.

For example, if you were to add the image "myThumbnail.gif" as the thumbnail image file, and assuming that the file were located in the sub-folder "toys" of the "pc/catalog" folder, you would have to enter "toys/myThumbnail.gif" in the corresponding field.

We do this now - it's fine.

Each major update stores the associated images in a sub-folder by month of the catalog directory.

Works absolutely fine.

I know a few people have posted various queries about images, but we never have a problem with it:

1.  Prepare our images

2.  Size them in advance to what we want in dimension.

3.  Create the folder above and upload

4.  Do simple reference/file name in the relevant fields of the products.

We create two images typically, a thumb nail at 130x130 (or relative for non-square) and a 500x500 detailed view.  Then it's easy just to type either the xxx_thumb or xxx_500 file name into the right field.

cheers

Mark
