Our OLD host (webhost4life.com) was kind enough to migrate our site without letting us know prior and to screw up everything there is. Support non existing and you wait 8 hours for one their standard dump replies. Nothing has gotten done so we moved over to joltdigital.com and Shannon is awesome. He copies all the files over, installed a temporary 2008 SQL server, and and and. Here is our problem the store still does not function. We can go into the back office and perform tasks, but people cannot order and we cannot place orders for them. You basically ad an item into the cart, go to checkout, and then it gives you an error when trying to create or access your customer account. Take a look at www.germanplaza.com All it says is "An error has occurred in this store. We apologize for the inconvenience." We then go into the backend trying to see what error it was, but it does not report anything. We need some help and hope someone can give us an answer. I know some of you run on SQL 2008, and you may have the answer. Oh webhost4life tells us that they did not keep copies of the SQL 2005 prior to their conversion. Hard to believe, but they are jerks and just blow us off wherever.

This appears to be a database that was copied to a new server, but did not copy the identity column, primary keys, and/or default values.

Mark Shipp found much more wrong with the db than just an update to
sql 2008. He found basically a db that had some corruption and was then
put through a botched upgrade to sql 2008. He basically had to rebuild
the database from scratch to get everything working again. It took him 8 hours to rebuild the database.
I assumed that this all happened with the migration on webhost4life, because it was working fine until they decided to do so without even letting us know ahead of time. I would have backed-up the database, if I had know that there were going to do some mayor upgrades to their system. We have gotten now a message, 2 days later, from webhost4life saying they redid the database upgrade with some fixes, but they still cannot provide the sql2005 version we have asked for nor would they admit their wrong doing. Thanks to Shannon and Mark Shipp we are back in business, due to their relentless work and long hours on it. For all those newbies to PC out there. Don't search for a hosting company, just go with joltdigital.com. You will get answers fast from the pros, no phone or email waiting games, and they do know their stuff and PC in and out. |

ouch, that stinks Katharina.
For what it's worth, I've been using Appliedi.net for hosting, and they have been great! |

I'm sure there are good companies out there. I guess best is to look for a hosting company that also offers PC. At least then you have someone who is familiar with it. I think many of them are on this board posting. We feel so lucky that we have found Shannon, and he knew exactly who to contact to get us up fast. I feel it is right to expose bad companies on this board, so other will have a joyable experience with PC. PC is a wonderful product, but it need to be in the right hosting environment.

I coudn't agree more about finding a host that is familiar with PC. It's not only the setup but also the functionality. It's not unusual for companies to sign up for windows hosting only to discover that they cannot use the upload/resize function because the compoments aren't installed.
I offer hosting services for my own customers here in the UK primarily because I can give them a much better service that way. My core business is not hosting and it's not something I want to pursue commercially but I have a lot of ProductCart customers and it makes it so much easier to offer them a complete package including ProductCart hosting.
One of my own customers is with Joltdigital and are very happy with them. I've only ever heard good things about Mark Shipp
