I was wondering if someone can pay for a service or make a payment throufh product cart.
i constantly have customers who have to pay me for services not for products. its simple enough to call them and run theyre credit card to make a payment but some people live outside the US and its not easy to call and ask for theyre credit card details. |

Sure - just make a $1 product called services and have them specify the amount as the quantity.

If the service is something that is sold multiple times, then you can set it up in ProductCart and adjust the amounts using one-time coupons or asking the customer to use the quantity field (as Greg indicated). For example, that's exactly what we do when we ask customer to purchase the "Ad-hoc Support" service on our software store. There is an hourly rate, and then we ask the customer to enter the amount of hours.
If the service is a one-time item, and assuming you have an account with Google Checkout or PayPal, you can send an electronic invoice, which is a very handy tool to collect payment in that sort of scenario. |

We are doing this all the time. We use the link to a hidden product (see link in Hamish's response) so only the customer sees it and not other shoppers. We recently had a custom order from a customer in Sweden and this enabled us to send the a link for the online invoice and they simply went online and paid for it. In an essence you do create a product listing, but specify it as free of shipping charges. Works great for us.
