I have the Apparel Add-On, but because of the limitation involving not being able to use Apparel products in product bundles/cross-selling, I recently converted some of my products to non-apparel items. The ability to have product bundles is outweighing my need to track the inventory separately for each product option on these products! (I started another thread on this subject and never got an answer - does anyone know if this will be fixed in V4?)
Here's my problem though: The products that I'm dealing with just have one necessary option, Color. I setup the Option group and the color attributes and included the appropriate picture where requested for each color option (when setting up the attributes). However, none of the pictures show on the product page, either when choosing the color from the dropdown or at any other time. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? You can see the product page here: http://www.treklightgear.com/catalog/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=5&idproduct=17 I really need the pictures associated with the color options to show when picked, customers are complaining that they can't decide on color from the drop down alone. Thanks in advance! |

You can use the "Additional Product Views" feature or add images directly in the HTML product description. However, the image will not change based on different option attributes (option drop-down). That is a feature that is specific to "Apparel" products.

I was hoping that wasn't the answer! Why do the product options for non-apparel products have an image associated with them then? Does that image get used for anything when it's a non-apparel product?
Using the additional images is a pretty horrible workaround, I've tried it. The order of the images becomes crucial so it at least makes some sense to the customer by matching up with the order of the colors in the drop down. But in the case where one particular color goes out of stock (often) you have to go in and remove the image...in order to add it back you've got to remove every other image that comes after it just to get it back to its proper place. The apparel add-on works great and solves all of these problems, which is why I bought it, but product bundles (ie. buy this product along with another and save $5) and cross-selling are such a crucial part of ecommerce I can't believe it's not compatible with apparel products. It seems like the Apparel add-on breaks one of the most important abilities of a shopping cart, which doesn't make sense to me. Are there any other workarounds possible? Coders? Greg? :) |

You are not alone in your disappointment with the apparel add-on. Aside from questions in the apparal forum going largely unanswered (or if you are lucky you get the one liner "that's a limitation" answer), I have become extremely frustrated with this add-on. one of the reasons I went with PC to begin with was the ability to bundle and reward points. I never would have gone this route if I knew the apparal add-on made those features unusable. I also am wondering if these issues will be addressed with the next version, but no one seems willing to answer, which to me means "No". Overall I am very disappointed.

I liked the site design too but was really irritated by the enforced sign up request that took me off the page I was viewing after about 10 seconds. The only way back was to close the request window.
Just an observation - you are using flash inside your product description to show the product benefits. This looks great on the page with the mouseover effect but I got the 'click to activate and use this control' message. You can get around this by adding some extra code to your website or alternatively create the same effect with CSS.
