Subject: How to do Delivery or Pickup?

Hi,

We are a catering company.  Our products are food items that are available for delivery or pick up onlly (no shipping).  Delivery is available anyday and the customer must enter a 30 minute time window of when they want the delivery and there is a fee associate (one fee for in our town, higher for the surrounding areas).  Pick up is available during regular weekday business hours from our office and is free.  Does anyone have an suggestions of the best way to gather this information from the client?  I thought of creating delivery or pick up as "products" that way I can add the fee and use the input field as a way to gather the date and time info.  I know that during checkout, the customer can pick a delivery date, but I don't think there is a way to associate a fee if they chose delivery and I won't know if they prefer the free pick up option.  Ideally, it would be great to have a "Delivery or Pick up Page" during the checkout process.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Have you tried creating a custom shipping method? (look in shipping options)

We have actually done customizations like this for a couple Product Cart stores. Unfortunately we are very busy right now and don't have the time to do customizations.

An easy workaround for now would be to have people enter their choices in the comments field when checking out. Create custom shipping options for Pickup (which would be free), and two delivery options with the correct delivery prices, one for in town and one for surrounding towns. You may want to list the available towns in the description or even in the general Shipping Note that can be  added to the shipping page. Then a customer chooses the correct option.

Hope this helps.
