Hi!  I'm new, so pardon the question if it is a silly one...I want to convert an existing cart to use cookies instead of sessions so when a user returns their items will still be there.  I noticed that the main session (pcCartSession) is an array, which I've successfully stored and re-hydrated.  Also there is the pcCartIndex session, which looks like the # of products.  Otherwise, I'm hitting a brick wall...Has anyone ever done this successfully?  Any help would be appreciated...Thank you!

Hi,  I'm not aware of anyone doing this before, but I do know that Greg Dinger offers a "Session Saver" add-on - see http://wiki.earlyimpact.com/widgets/thirdparty/sessionsaver - wiki.earlyimpact.com/widgets/thirdparty/sessionsaver

That, in combination with features such as "wish list" etc meets the needs of most sites/users, although every site has it's own requirements of course.

To clarify, It doesn't put the data in a cookie afaik, instead it watches out for the session expiring and ensures it doesn't. There's been very favourable comments about it on the forum.

Hamish - thanks so much.

Kinglyjosh,   are you hoping for a solution that allows the shopper to close their browser or to navigate elsewhere, and that if/when they return to your site their cart contents will be there?

If either of the above is the case, you may be better off making certain that you promote the "save to wish list" feature.  That way the items are stored in the database and they can log in to view their saved selections.

Alternatively, if you simply wish to make certain that if the visitor goes to lunch and returns, that their cart contents are still happily awaiting them, my mod works perfectly for that.

Thank you for the comments!  Basically, the client doesn't want the potential customer to have to do anything to have the products show back up after they close their browser.  Basically, he's seen that most carts are abandoned, and he feels that if their products were still then across browser openings, they would be more inclined to buy.  I don't think that the wish list solution will work for this reason (unless I missed that idea of the wish list).

Thank you
