Our company is using ProductCart v3.01. I know I have to update the system soon.

I would like to know if this version (3.01) or newer versions (up to 3.11) will allow us to add more fields or will upgraded versions come with more fields for taking credit card information at checkout?

The problem is, the only fields available are the type of card, the card number and expiration date. There's no fields for the name on the card, nor the verification/security number of the card.

Since we deal with a lot of foreign orders and have been burned many times in the past with stolen credit cards from foreign countries, it is VERY important that we can collect that data from the customer.

Please let me know if it's possible to add those data fields. Please note though, I am not a programmer so unless you have detailed step-by-step instructions, asking me to modify the asp code won't work for me.

No, there are and there will be no changes in this area ("offline credit card processing").

Regulations for the protection of cardholder information (PCI) prohibit the storage of the card security code under any circumstance. It simply cannot be done, and we completely agree with these regulations. No one should have the card security code, except for the cardholder himself/herself.

You need to use a payment gateway if you want to be able to validate the card security code: in that case it is not stored anywhere, but it is checked in real time by the payment processor.

As for the card type, it's not necessary as the first digit in the card number indicates what card it is (e.g. 4 = VISA, 5 = MasterCard, 3 = American Express, etc.).

First off, I didn't ask for the TYPE of card because ProductCart already has a drop-down to select that.

Second, can there be a required field to enter the NAME on the card? Sometimes we've had one person who orders for another person and uses that other person's company credit card. We would want to have a way to verify that the person in the billing address is the same as the cardholder, or if it's different from the billing name, then we'll need to have the cardholder's name.

Lastly, you said that we would need to use a payment gateway to validate the card security code. We have a merchant account to process cards online. Is there some kind of setup in ProductCart or through the merchant account to get the online form to accept the FULL card information to process the order? Where in the user manual would it be to find the instructions to do this?

Please contact your merchant account provider and ask them which payment gateway they support. ProductCart in http://www.earlyimpact.com/productcart/payment_gateways.asp - integrated out of the box with over 30 payment systems . Hopefully they support a payment gateway that is already on the list. If so, all you need to do is activate it in ProductCart, once you've established an account with the company.
