One of the things that's always bothered me is the way that PC handles the product images (I've got the apparel add-on FYI).   I got excited to see that HighSlide is being implemented and I just tested it out in the online PC 3.5 demo on this page:  http://www.earlyimpact.com/demos/standard/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=8&idcategory= - http://www.earlyimpact.com/demos/standard/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=8&idcategory=

The HighSlide looks great, but the biggest frustration with the images for me (and a ton of feedback from my customers) is still there.    When you have product images that are of different dimensions (which is obviously common because you can see it in the demo) you run into problems when hovering your mouse over the images.   As the images change, the layout of the page changes as well to accomodate the different size images and this can cause some headaches.

I've had situations where you hover over an image and when it displays the image it moves the page so the mouse is then actually over a different image.  If that image the mouse is now over (through no movement of your own) is a different size, it moves the page back to its other layout and an endless loop can result where it's switching back and forth between two pictures endlessly even though the mouse is staying in the same spot.  You can put your mouse in the right spot on the demo page and see this easily. You with me?

I'm curious if anyone has come up with a solution for this, it looks like it's still a problem in 3.5.    If the only solution is to turn off the rollover action of displaying the pictures, can someone help me out and tell me how to modify the code to make this happen?  I would still want the correct product images to display based on the options for the product (ie, choose Blue from the Color option and the Blue picture displays), but hovering over the images wouldn't change them and you would have to click on the images to see them in the popup/HighSlide.    Any ideas, thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks!

I may have a solution to making all images appear to be the same size.  Lets assume you want them all to appear to be 300x500 pixels, meaning all your images are smaller then that.   Make a white image in that size (you can use as a different background color to match your sites colors.).  Now cut and paste an image into that white images and save as an image name you would like to use for it.  That way some will have a larger white border and other have smaller ones.  Overall all images will the identical in size.
Let me know if that works out for you,
Katharina

I agree that the slide and zoom look great, but the jumping picture looks terrible. Most of my pictures are different sizes, and having hundreds of products, it's not an option to re-size each one. Maybe there's a way with CSS to set the <TD> containing the image to a specific size; if so, the image could be centred in the cell and give a similar effect to Katharina's suggestion.

When 3.5 arrives, I'll look into this and report any success.

We agree that this is a problem. It is also not easy to fix in the code. For this reason, we have worked on documenting a way to automate the task that Katharina was describing above.

The batch processing routine mentioned in the page listed below can be used against hundreds of images. It requires Adobe Fireworks, but something similar can certainly be accomplished with other graphics programs.
