Subject: Question About Hidden Products

Got a question about hidden products. We have a set of products that we only want to be available to customers through direct link (through an email), but we do not want these products to show up in the main categories of the store or appear through a search. So my question is, how do I make a product only available through direct link? Thanks.

If we correctly understand what you are trying to accomplish, you should be able to do it by taking advantage of Hidden Categories. Please see: http://wiki.earlyimpact.com/productcart/products_category#other_settings - http://wiki.earlyimpact.com/productcart/products_category#other_settings

I've done that.  Create a category, mark it to be hidden from storefront, and add products.   We are using it for international shipping charges, when the shipping cost has to be determined.  We simply send an email with a link and the customer can click on it and pay.  Can be used for products or even invoices.

Thanks, but I've kinda tried that. I need to be able to send the customers to the category with the product listing, not an individual product. So when I make a category hidden and try to use a direct link to it, the store gives me an error.

Have you tried to put an non hidden directory below a hidden one?  Not sure if that works, since I haven't tried it yet.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that doesn't work either.

Just create a content page in ProductCart (or an HTML page with your HTML editor) and use that as your "category" page. The page will link to all of the products, as if it were a category page.

Thanks for the suggestion, but when I create a content page, then it becomes visible in the Other Links section of my site so users are able to get to it through a link in the store. I want the page not have a link anywhere in the store, only accessible by direct link. Thanks

You have complete control on the header.asp and footer.asp files. That section of the code certainly does not have to be there. In fact, in most cases ProductCart-powered stores don't use it at all. It's part of the default graphical interface (header.asp and footer.asp files) just to show what can be done by adding dynamic code to your store design.

Thanks again for the suggestion, but I actually like having the Other Links section displayed on the store's pages, so removing it won't be an option.
