Hi, is there a way to customise productCart to display the products and the productCart text in the language file in multiple languages?

Cheers

Wayne

Hi Wayne,
There's no built in method. It would be possible, with some customization (probably quite a small amount), to use two different "languages.asp" filesto get the site text to display in alternative languages, but getting the products to be displayed in two different languages would be much more tricky IMHO.

Hi Wayne - Yes, it's possible to do this for multiple languages.  We added Spanish and French for NovaFlex Group ( http://www.novaflex.com/ - http://www.novaflex.com/ ) a couple of months ago.

Hi Wayne - We did it at the database level, as well as with the languages file so that it would scale for future languages.  We modified the public side of the site to display the language the customer selects.  Then we used a cookie to set the language.   We also changed the admin pages so that translators could login and modify their language content, or the main admin can copy and paste in the translated content.

We also proposed that the website try to detect the language that the person has set (like Spanish, German, etc) for their computer/browser and automatically serve that language unless they change it.  We can also do a session cookie should their browser not accept client cookies.  The key is to NOT use machine translated language, as it's not reliable.

If you would like to talk about this over the phone, feel free to call us at 800-291-7147.  You can dial extension 2 and Amy will talk to you about this some more.  My VP of Development and I can jump in the call if necessary too.

Thanks,
Erik

hi Erik,

I am looking for a similar solution for having two languages on our site.

currently, we have SKU numbers for each product in french or english. Would your solution, when we switch from English to French (for example), change all the products in the store to feature only the French SKUs? Or does it just change the text on the same items?

You may want to look at  how Anna at http://www.jewel.se - www.jewel.se has dealt with the multi-language issue - she simply runs two sites.  However, she hired Mark Shipp ( mailto:mark@cognecy.com - mark@cognecy.com ) to perform a database revision that allows the two stores to share inventory levels.

Hi rkeyes – Our solution doesn’t require duplicate products/sku's in the database.  If, however, you wish to have duplicate products, we could work with that.  The way we did it is to have 1 sku per product, but have multiple languages for that product.

You can check out the site I’m referencing at http://www.novaflex.com/ - http://www.novaflex.com/

Thanks,
Erik
