Just got a message from google telling me that the froogle feed has been discontinued.  They now use google base feed for all.  When you go to froogle to log in they redirect you to the new interface.  No problem I thought.  Went there unloaded my feed, and trouble.  It no longer shows the images or the description.  You can manually adjust the links on their site, but it is impossible to do that with 1200 items.  They have the new file format feed instruction at http://www.google.com/base/howtobulkupload.html - http://www.google.com/base/howtobulkupload.html

Hi Katharina, we received the same email today from Google. We are working on making the changes to the file format. We should have updated files in a day or two.

Attached is the edited file. Let us know how it goes.

  • The attached file has been tested with version 2.76
  • The upcoming v3 will also feature the new code
  • The file needs to be unzipped and uploaded to the Control Panel folder (called "pcadmin" by default, but typically renamed on your store).

I've used the updated file today.  There is one problem with it.  (I'm using the sql version.)  The generated feed does leaves the description blank.

We can't replicate this problem. We tested both with MS Access and MS SQL. You can look at the source code: it's extremely straightforward: it loads the short and long description. It uses the short description unless it's empty, in which case it uses the long description. Please open a support ticket.

In the past, over on another cart (Monster Commerce), I had to select Long Description, or, else it created problems with the feed.

I received this reply from my first google upload from productcart data.

Good news - the content of your bulk upload has been approved to appear on Google Base. We'd like to take this opportunity to let you know that we've started a search refinement experiment that surfaces Google Base content on Google.com. To help users find your items, both on Google Base and through this Google.com surfacing experiment, please make the following changes to your bulk upload file:

- Using Froogle attributes (fields)

-----------------
Using Froogle attributes (fields): We noticed that your bulk upload is using attribute names specified in the old Froogle product feed format. For example, for the attribute "category" please replace this with the "label" attribute and separate your labels with commas instead of the symbol ">". Please convert your product feed to the new Google Base format by changing the attributes names in your header line:

Make sure that you are using the files mentioned earlier in this thread.

Early Impact
Thanks for doing this.

One comment and a suggestion:
1. The files are hardcoded for productcart/*. They should use whatever the site folder is.
2. The output would be more usable in xls format IMO.

Nonetheless - thank you for doing this promptly

I was wondering if anyone had experienced a 1000 line limitation?

Here is the message that I got today.

Hello,

Good news - the content of your bulk upload has been approved. However, we noticed that there were a few changes you could make to help users find your items:

- Using Froogle attributes (fields)

-----------------
Using Froogle attributes (fields): We noticed that your bulk upload is using attribute names specified in the old Froogle product feed format. For example, you've included "product_url" as an attribute name, although this attribute is named "link" in the Google Base format. Please convert your product feed to the new Google Base format by changing the attributes names in your header line:
How can this be fixed?

Hi Thanks for the comment.
After a few tries I did not have any further problems - I did not have any issues with trying to upload more than 1000 items.
